We’ve been working with ng homes on an important project to install two small devices into each of their homes. The aim of the project is simple: To make sure every tenant has a warm, healthy and comfortable home.

Frequently asked questions

  • ng homes have installed two small devices into your living room and bedroom to help them understand how well your home is performing. It allows us to spot any signs of issues such as damp, mould or poor ventilation before they become a problem.

  • The device only checks three important pieces of data:

    - Temperature
    - Humidity
    - CO₂

    This helps to identify potential issues like improving air quality when CO2 increases, or if heating systems are efficient which could reduce energy bills or improving ventilation to reduce the risk of damp and mould.

  • The information is used to proactively ensure your home is as healthy and comfortable as possible.

    If the information highlights a potential issue, we’ll alert NG Homes and they will be able to come out and fix it as efficiently and with as little disruption as possible.

  • Identifying potential issues as early as possible will help to create the healthiest environment possible for you.

    By ensuring properties are thermally efficient and heating systems are working correctly, tenants can not only be assured their living in a healthy, warmer property, but there may also be financial benefits with reduced energy bills.

  • The devices are part of an ng homes programme to help keep homes safe, healthy, and comfortable. They will remain in your home permanently, like a smoke alarm, so potential issues can be identified early. If you have any concerns, ng homes can discuss these with you.

  • No. The sensor is not a fire risk.

    It has been independently tested to IEC 61010-1, an international safety standard used for electrical equipment.

    The sensor uses very low power (similar to a small battery device like a smoke alarm) and is built with fire-resistant materials. As part of the certification process it is tested to ensure it is not a fire hazard.

  • Absolutely. All tenants will have the option to access the data for their own home.

    If you’re not a techie person or aren’t able to access it, rest assured that your data is being reviewed and your landlord will be in touch with any issues.

  • The devices are battery powered and designed to last for up to 10 years.
    You do not need to replace the batteries yourself. If a battery ever needs changing, ng homes will arrange this for you.

  • No, the device makes no sound. There are also no lights so once it’s up you won’t even notice it’s there.

  • No. The devices do not record sound, video, images, or personal activity.
    It only measures temperature, humidity, and CO₂ levels to understand how the home environment is performing.

  • No. The device does not identify specific activities or behaviours. It only measures environmental conditions such as temperature, CO₂ and humidity.
